Senior Health and Safety Consultant

Hours:                  40 hours per week  

Contract:             Permanent

Salary:                  £40,000-£50,000 plus bonus Dependent on experience

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing HR Consultancy based in Northamptonshire to develop the build-out and growth of its new Health and Safety consultancy offering to new SME clients, leveraging the existing HR client base.

This position would be a cornerstone leadership role in the creation of a Health and Safety division within HR Solutions reporting into the HR Solutions CEO                                        

The Business:

HR Solutions is a successful HR consultancy business based in the East Midlands which is looking to grow its offering into the SME Health and Safety advisory space both organically and through acquisition where appropriate.   

The Role:

We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and experienced Health and Safety Consultant to join our growing team of 25 professionals focused on delivering high quality advice at affordable cost to a diverse client base. The role will see the successful candidate help to establish and build a new Health and Safety division to provide health and safety support and advice to a growing client base across the UK.

Ideally you will be qualified to CMIOSH status and will have a proven track record of leading teams and implementing practical health and safety solutions ideally within and across a broad range of industries.

As part of this role you will work closely with other members of the broader HR team on branding and marketing enabling HR Solutions to provide a wide range of services to our client base.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To work with the HR Solutions CEO in the development and delivery of a new Health and Safety offering, including a longer-term strategy, branding and marketing plan for that business
  • To identify, recruit, motivate and develop a high quality team of H&S advisors in line with the agreed strategy
  • To provide health and safety support and advice to clients in accordance with current UK and EU legislation.
  • To be instrumental in the creation of Health and Safety documentation to be used with clients
  • To conduct audits and  inspections, generating reports, reviewing progress against action plans and providing advice, guidance and support in a timely, responsive manner.
  • Developing risk assessments and safe systems of work in consultation with clients.
  • Preparing and deliver Health and Safety training where required.
  • Supporting clients with accident investigations and enforcing authority actions where necessary.
  • To support the continuous development of the Health and Safety offering

Person Specification:


  • NEBOSH National Certificate/Grad IOSH.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a H&S Consultancy
  • Demonstrable experience in leading small teams of advisors
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience of working in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Thorough understanding of the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and supporting Regulations.
  • Previous experience of carrying out health & safety audits, inspections & risk assessments.
  • A high level of IT skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good report writing skills
  • Good analytical & research skills.
  • Valid UK driving license and car owner.


  • Chartered status.
  • Good understanding of broader UK H&S market place
  • Experience of advising clients in a wide range of industries over multiple sites.
  • Experience of delivering training.
